Premilcuore is located on the right bank of the Rabbi river, under the green peaks of the Arsiccio mount.

It is a medieval village and its ancient urban structure is almost intact..

About the origins of the name, several suppositions have put forward and some of them are even fantastic. But what is certain is that “Plano Mercuri”, Castro Premalcorii” and “Plamicarii” are mentioned in documents dating back to XII and XIII century.

Premilcuore was an important passage place for trade between Romagna and Tuscany and belonged to the powerful Counts Guidi of Modigliana until 1100. In 1375 it passed to Florence and obtained the necessary regulations and charters to remain under Florentine rule until 1923 when it became part of the present province.

Tuscany left a clear mark on the town represented by the simplicity of the façades of the houses and the use of sandstone to frame doors and windows. The two splendid buildings in the old town are also of Florentine influence: the elegant Palazzo Giannelli and the prestigious Palazzo Briccolani, so as the Parish church of S. Martino all'Oppio just outside the village and the Oratory of S.Lorenzo.

The Clock Tower towers on the old Porta Fiorentina, which divides Piazza Caduti from Piazza Ricci. The clock dates back to 1593 and still works by means of two stones that pull a hemp rope down the whole length of the tower.

Premilcuore is also one of the five access "gates" to the National Park of the Casentino Forests, and there is a well organised Visitors Centre where you can discover the characteristics of the flora and fauna of this part of the Apennines. The bond with the land and the river is represented by old mills, some of them completely restored and in good working order.

Premilcuore, together with other five towns in the province of Forlì-Cesena, has obtained the orange flag assigned by the Touring Club Italiano, symbol of the quality of tourism and the environment in inland areas (traduzione E. Deo)
