PORTICO DI ROMAGNA
According to tradition, it was in this typical village, where you can find one of the Palaces of Beatrice Portinari's family, that love blossomed between Dante and Beatrice.
[...] Entrano i raggi di questi occhi belli
ne’ miei innamorati,
e portan dolce ovunque io sento amaro;
e sanno lo cammin, sì come quelli
che già vi son passati,
e sanno il loco dove Amor lasciaro,
quando per li occhi miei dentro il menaro:
per che merzé, volgendosi, a me fanno,
e di colei cui son procaccian danno
celandosi da me, poi tanto l’amo
che sol per lei servir mi tegno [...]
(Rime, "Io sento sì d'amor la gran possanza")

About 30 km from Forlì you'll find Portico di Romagna, a charming medieval town characterised by a picturesque urban structure arranged in three levels: in the middle, you'll find Portinari Palace, which belonged to Beatrice's father, the woman Dante loved and who was an essential figure in his personal and literary life.
It was here, according to tradition, that their love blossomed.
In Portico, we recommend taking a walk starting from the highest part of the village, from where you'll be able to see the Vigna Turrets that surround the town; in the middle part of the village, you can visit the Compagnia Church, and then walk downhill along the Vicolo della Calgheria until you reach the beautiful Maestà Bridge, in the shape of a donkey's back, and which dates back to 1300.
