BRISIGHELLA
Reach Brisighella with Dante's Train
This is the nickname of the "Faentina", the railway track that links Florence and Faenza, running through the heart of the Tuscany-Romagna Apennines.
A special train that runs through the special landscapes described by the poet in his long wanderings as an exile. Come see towns rich with culture and tradition. A trip through time to discover a land unique in the world
Brisighella is an ancient medieval town nestled in the countryside of the Apennines, along the road that runs from Faenza to Florence.
The town lies at the foot of three peaks of chalk on which stand the imposing Rocca Manfrediana (Manfredi Fortress), built by Francesco Manfredi in 1310 and finished by the Venetians in the 16th century; the Torre dell'Orologio (Clock Tower), built in 1850, and the Sanctuary of Monticino, of ancient Marian heritage dating back to the 18th century.
The historical centre is dominated by the ancient Via del Borgo, an elevated and covered road, unique in the world, and known as Via degli Asini (Donkey's Alley), because of the shelter it gave the animals of the carters that lived there.
Brisighella is known for the therapeutic properties of its hot springs, known about since ancient times and used even today for health and beauty reasons.
About 1 km from the town, you'll find the Parish Church of San Giovanni in Ottavo, so-called because it is located on the eighth mile of the Roman road that connected Faenza with Tuscany. This Parish church is an evocative temple in Romanesque style with a basilica plan, and was probably built in the 5th century.
One of the rich agricultural food productions of the area is the exquisite Brisighella extra virgin olive oil, bearing the European PDO mark, and to which the Open Air Museum of Oil is dedicated, as it winds along hill roads and ancient olive trees that surround the small town. This land is dedicated to hospitality and sustainable tourism, and as such, Brisighella has been awarded with some important certifications: Most beautiful villages in Italy, Oil City, Wine City, Slow City, and the Orange Flag awarded by Touring Club Italiano.
